The Mansfield 500 Series Stem 123-0096 is for a 4 inch wall. The stem from end to end will measure 18 inches. If you were to measure this stem while in the faucet you get 6 inches. The Mansfield 123-0096 stem comes complete and ready to install. In Addition, The end that faces out of the faucet has a square shape for the handle screw to thread into it. 

The 123-0096 stem comes with the packing and support washer on one end, And includes a spring loaded end on the other. Along with male threads made of brass. The stem is for the 500 series faucet, which was made before 2006. The Mansfield 500 Series Stem is made from copper and brass. The Stem also has the o-ring and washer on the spring loaded end. 

The 123-0096 stem comes complete with all washers and o-rings. Therefore, When ordered you can install as soon as it arrives. When measuring yours make sure to get the complete length. The handle goes into the square end of the stem. However, The stem has brass male threads to go into the faucet. Also, the stem is spring loaded like the 400 series.
